Keeping Skills Sharp: Our Team’s Dog First Aid Refresher

Keeping pets safe is at the heart of everything we do at Hols Pets, so making sure our team stays fully prepared for emergencies is an absolute priority. We’ve just completed our latest dog first aid refresher course and are now certified for another three years, a reassuring milestone for both us and the families who trust us with their dogs.

Why Dog First Aid Matters

Even the best-behaved or healthiest dogs can experience unexpected situations: a cut on a woodland walk, a sudden illness, choking, heatstroke, or a painful sting. In those moments, knowing exactly what to do, and acting quickly can make all the difference. The refresher course ensures we remain confident with vital skills such as:

  • Assessing injuries and monitoring vital signs

  • Responding to choking

  • Managing bleeding and bandaging wounds

  • Handling heatstroke, shock, and seizures

  • Safely transporting an injured dog

  • Recognising early warning signs of illness

Training like this isn’t something you do once and forget. Techniques evolve, best practice updates, and confidence grows only through regular reinforcement. That’s why refresher courses are so valuable.

Meet the Team Behind the Certification

Our small but dedicated team brings different levels of availability and experience, but we all share the same commitment to pet safety:

  • Holly – our full-time dog walker who spends her days exploring the outdoors with clients’ dogs.

  • Juliet – working part-time, she brings calm reliability and a steady presence to every walk.

  • Anya – providing ad-hoc support during holidays and busy spells, she steps in whenever needed to keep everything running smoothly.

All three of us are now fully refreshed and certified in dog first aid for another three years.

What This Means for Our Clients

Choosing a dog walker isn’t just about exercise, it’s about trusting someone with a member of your family. Knowing we’re trained and up to date gives our clients confidence that, should an emergency occur, we’ll respond quickly and appropriately until veterinary care is available.

At Hols Pets, safety comes first, always. This latest training is another way we ensure every dog in our care receives the highest standard of attention and protection. If you’d like to know more about our services or how we keep pets safe on their walks, feel free to get in touch.

Until next time, happy pet parenting!

Love, Holly x
